Thin Laptop or Performance Laptop? Four Questions to Ask

Choose around your software, travel frequency, desk setup, and tolerance for fan noise, not just the processor name.

More performance does not automatically make a better laptop. Extra power usually brings a heavier charger, more fan noise, and shorter battery life.

Ask before buying

  • What is the most demanding software you use every week?
  • How often do you carry the laptop away from your desk?
  • Will it spend most of its time connected to an external display?
  • Are you comfortable with fans running during normal work?

If most work happens in a browser and documents, a thin laptop is often the more comfortable tool you will use more frequently.
